Work Experience

Project Manager / Project Engineer (Ineos Chlor / Inovyn)
Jun 1995 - Current

I am involved in the project management / project engineering of a number of different projects related to the design, procurement and installation of new plant and equipment. The project management includes cost control exercises, combined with the approval and supervision of sub-contract design, fabrication and installation service personnel in different disciplines. (i.e. piping, mechanical, civil and electrical).

In the project engineering role I have co-ordinated major overhauls of plant and equipment and have also supervised the installation and become involved in commissioning work, coupled with the compilation of all paperwork required to hand over a safe and functioning plant. This has included decisive problem solving and decision making to keep the projects both on time and within budget.

I have also carried out design engineering contracts for both Ineos Fluor and Brunner Mond in an advisory / problem solving role.

During this time I have also carried out mechanical engineering work for other Companies along with completing detail drawings / calculations for house extensions / new builds.

Professional Footballer (Preston North End Football Club)
Apr 1993 - Jun 1995

I held a part time position at ICI whilst playing as a professional footballer with Preston North End.

Design Engineer (Imperial Chemicals Limited)

Gained valuable site based experience in the design of various types of chemical and polymer installations, involved in the manufacture of bulk chemicals. This included the preparation of schemes and layouts for both piping and mechanical disciplines, including the drafting of relevant general arrangement and detail drawings of pipework and equipment constructed from various materials (i.e. mild and stainless steels, all plastics, exotic alloys and glass and plastic lined materials.).

Also involved in the compilation of sanction grade estimates for the design, procurement and installation of plant and equipment, along with calculations regarding pressure vessels, piping flexibility and pipe supports.

Fully conversant with ICI Engineering Specifications and Standard systems and Autocad 14.

Design Engineer (British Nuclear Fuels Limited)
Aug 1982 to Sep 1989

Completed a four year Design Engineering Apprenticeship, which included the manufacture of mechanical, electrical and instrument equipment using various machining processes, with on site experience.

Valuable site experience designing plant and equipment for both power stations and nuclear plants utilising both conventional drafting methods and Computer Aided Design (PDMS and SCHEMA).

Preparation of flow diagrams, general arrangements and detail drawings within the mechanical, mechanical handling and piping fields, coupled with the production of relevant calculations for material strength, service flow rates and structural steelwork.

Compilation of purchase requisitions and material orders for plant and equipment including the supervision of the installation and commissioning on site.

Fully conversant with BNFL Engineering Specifications and Standard systems.
